Career impact of motherhood

No major impact

I had always wanted to be a Resource Geologist, and tailored my career early so I could get exposure to this. I did 9 years of FIFO, and then moved into an office job during covid when I was feeling ready to move on to the next stage of my life with my partner. Having already established myself in the field of resource geology, and starting a job with a company that supports mums and flexible working, the transition work-wise went really well. I am also thankful to have a partner who helps a lot with the kids when they are sick and can't go to daycare.

How did you manage work during pregnancy?

I was very fortunate to be working for a company that was flexible on the office/working from home split, and also start and finish time, plus very understanding with regards to IVF appointments.

Advice for other mums

There are a lot of avenues for office based or residential based geo roles. Potentially worth thinking of what your end goal is in advance, so you aren't chasing the clock when you are pregnant, and already where you want to be.
