Career impact of motherhood

I had to have children later than I would like to make sure my consulting practice was well established and robust.

Advice for other mums

You need a really good support network and, if you are not a consultant, you need to consider an office based role for a few years. I was very lucky because, being a consultant geophysicist, I do not need to do a lot of field work and for those projects where it was important, I could send my colleagues. I do not have a great support network and, more recently, I have had to use live in nannies for when both me and my husband are working away. It is a real juggle.
